Catalyst UX: Making Life-Science Breakthroughs Accessible with Unified UX Design

Catalyst UX

Paul Giurata, CEO, Catalyst UXPaul Giurata, CEO
Digital innovations are driving healthcare technology evolution at warp speed. For life-science firms, making great UX is a new, more complex problem than even the IT issues they dealt with before. Life sciences companies have learned that despite having a new diagnostic tool, it’s hard to build a product and get FDA approval. The reason: they need a unified user experience that works on desktops and the myriad mobile devices.

Headquartered in Silicon Valley with offices around the world, Catalyst UX (www.catalystux.com) solves the problem by providing full UX capability including user research, UX design, engineering and usability testing specifically for life-sciences companies. Catalyst creates unified design systems that work on their clients’ full software suite or family of instruments. Once they’re built, future releases can be maintained and updated by the client’s current technology team.

Life-science companies typically focus on their solutions’ science. Their life-saving systems are based on instruments, analysis, research, and chemistry. Then they face designing software, which means focusing on the people who interact with the product. Catalyst UX helps companies by designing and developing user experiences that maximizes user efficiency to accelerate diagnoses and discovery.

For life-science technology solution providers, user experience is an issue more central and complex than any other

Here’s an example. Freeslate, a subsidiary of Unchained Labs, had been developing FormPrep. It enables labs to create custom protein molecules for drug research. The product features were defined, but the user experience was not defined. Catalyst UX designed and developed a completely integrated UX to control and accurately interpret the FormPrep instrument.

“The life sciences area is unique. Here, it’s not just about having the data; it’s about having what’s required, at the right time and place, on the right easily accessed device,” states Paul Giurata, CEO of Catalyst UX.

User validated interfaces created by Giurata and his team of experts gather information accurately. They are guided by the usefulness of the data from the healthcare perspective. The UX methodology filters Big Data into only the necessary parameters making the results mappable on different platforms. They’ve built solutions to identify and extract specific signatures for certain contamination level in water samples or to methodically filter a big data model for patients being discharged from hospitals after a specific acute treatment.

Having designed and built user experiences for leading global firms including Thermo Fisher, Roche, Blue Cross, PerkinElmer, plus emerging companies like Navihealth, Accelerate Diagnotics, and Unchained Labs, Catalyst UX continues to broaden their technological expertise. The company’s roadmap includes helping companies extend their solutions with cloud, IoT, mobile capability, and the use of big data analytics. Catalyst UX aims to make their clients’ life-science instruments more successful and nimble using unified UX design.
